Welcome back to MEDS eNews! This month we spend some time with Metabolic and Endocrine Disease Summit Fall faculty Donna Jornsay, a nurse practitioner and diabetes educator who has lived well with T1DM for 54 years and is going strong! She discusses the role and importance of physical activity in maintaining glucose control in both T1D& T2D, whether CGM and/or frequent blood glucose monitoring more clinically significant than A1C alone, recent studies that have shown increased incidence and prevalence of youth-onset T2DM, and regarding diabetes and pregnancy, is there an ideal screening criteria that should be the standard? What about a standard for glucose targets? Following the interview is our Rapid Fire segment with Donna as well!

Welcome back to MEDS eNews. This month we spend some time with Metabolic and Endocrine Disease Summit Fall faculty Davida Kruger, who is a Nurse Practitioner at Henry Ford Health System, Division of Endocrinology, Diabetes, Bone Disease, and Adjunct Clinical Faculty, Graduate School of Nursing, Michigan State University in Detroit, Michigan. Davida has spent her career as a certified nurse practitioner in diabetes for more than 35 years. Her role includes both clinical practice and research, and she is board-certified in both primary care and advanced diabetes management. She is also a co-investigator on numerous studies of diabetes interventions and care, including the National Institutes of Health-funded multicenter EDIC and ACCORD trials.

Happy New Year! Welcome back to MEDS eNews. For this first month issue of 2023, I got a chance to speak with Rick Pope MPAS, PA-C, DFAAPA, CPAAPA. I’ve wanted to catch up with Rick since his presentations at the recent MEDS Summit because they were so well received. So I asked him here about these topics and then some other critical aspects of MEDS care. Rick is an author and Clinical Professor at the University of Bridgeport PA Institute, Sacred Heart University PA Program, Rheumatology PA (emeritus) Department of Rheumatology, Danbury Hospital, in Connecticut, and Founder and Past President of the Society of PAs in Rheumatology.
